Search Results Relevancy Ranking How to Turn Off Ranked Results The latest upgrade to the OWL software includes a significant change in the display of keyword search results. Formerly, results displayed in chronological order, but relevancy was not considered. As a result, a title that might be very relevant could appear further down the list of results if it was not among the most recent publications. Keyword search results are automatically grouped & ranked by relevancy. This is intended to bring the best results to the top. Suppose we search for the phrase "history of colorado". Results will appear in up to 5 groups : Most Relevant; Highly Relevant; Very Relevant; Relevant; and Other Relevant. Titles within each relevancy group display in order from most recent date to oldest. Most Relevant The search phrase appears in the main title with the words next to each other and in the order you typed. Highly Relevant The search phrase appears in the sub-title or other title information with the words next to each other and in the order you typed. Very Relevant The search phrase appears anywhere in the record with the words next to each other and in the order you typed. Relevant All the words in your search appear anywhere in the title in any order. The words don't have to be next to each other.. Other Relevant All the words in your search appear anywhere in the record in any order. How to Turn Off Ranked Results While we're enthusiastic about how Ranked Results displays search information, some users might want to sort searches in the older chronological manner. It's easy! Just click on "date" or "title" after "X results found. sorted by relevance" in the results list! To deactivate ranked results either 1) use quotation marks around your search, OR 2) select: Author, Title, Subject, or Other Fields, from the Advanced Search 'All Fields' drop down menu.
